Tucked away on Buxton’s industrial estate, Buxton Brewery Trackside is a hidden gem that feels more like a countryside retreat. With panoramic views of the Peaks, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a pint of freshly brewed Buxton beer straight from the source. Their smash burgers are a must-try—juicy patties on pretzel buns, served with crispy skin-on fries and a dill pickle. The bacon fries, topped with bacon mayo and bits, are dangerously good. Sock & Buskin is Buxton’s newest cocktail bar, tucked beneath the Old Courthouse and steeped in theatrical charm. Named after the classic comedy and tragedy masks, it’s a nod to the town’s rich cultural heritage. Inside, you’ll find exposed brick arches, candlelit tables, and a drinks list that’s as thoughtful as it is creative. General Manager Jake is a cocktail aficionado—ask him about their house Sock & Buskin gin, infused with botanicals like gorse berries and heather foraged from the Peak District. The small plates, crafted by Head Chef Dan using ingredients sourced within 10 miles, are designed to complement the drinks perfectly. Tucked away in Buxton’s Conservation Area, the Vintage Tea Rooms & Wine Bar (Aquae Arnemetiae) is one of my favourite little spots. By day, it’s all homemade cakes, breakfasts, and proper afternoon teas – the kind of place you settle in for “just one coffee” and end up staying an hour. On Saturday nights, it turns into a cosy wine bar with live music, and the new booth at the back is perfect for a relaxed catch-up. Keep your eye out for events.

Dandelion – Speciality Coffee is a hidden gem just off the main street, run by the lovely Roy and Lili who really know their beans. It’s a place where the coffee is the main event – no frills, just seriously good brews from top independent roasters across the UK (think Bristol, London, and York). The vibe is minimal and stylish, and if you're picky about your flat white, this is where you'll find your people.

Nocturne is a cosy little café tucked inside what used to be a music shop – and the musical soul still lingers. Classical piano drifts through the space thanks to the live performances and lessons still happening in the back room. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, the coffee is excellent, and Charlotte’s latte art is a real treat. It's one of those spots that feels quietly special – perfect for a slow morning in Buxton.

Hargreaves & Son is a true Buxton institution, trading since 1865 and still family-run by the fourth generation, Martin Coles-Evans. Once home to the much-loved Edwardian Tea Rooms, the shop has recently embraced its heritage by transforming the upper floor into a stunning kitchen and tableware showroom, echoing the original 1913 Crystal Showroom. Downstairs, you'll find a beautifully curated selection of gifts, homewares, and seasonal delights—especially magical at Christmas. It's the kind of place where you can lose track of time browsing, and it remains a cornerstone of Buxton’s high street charm.

Nestled just off the Pavilion Gardens, the Buxton Pudding Emporium is a haven for traditional treats and handmade foodie gifts. Their take on the famous Buxton Pudding is a must-try—rich, comforting, and served with lashings of custard. The shop itself is full of local jams, chutneys, and lovely gifts, all made with care by the family-run team.
